On the Sunny Side of the Street

 NHKの朝ドラ「カムカムエブリバディ」。ラジオ英語講座とジャズ。英語教師としてはみるべしと思い、見続けていて、結構楽しんでいます。

世良まさのりのOn the Sunny Side of the Street。なかなか渋かった。そもそも、この歌をこのドラマのど真ん中に据えたところが、作者のセンスを感じる。ストーリーの展開も、戦時中から、どんどん日なたにの道を進む日本を描いてく。今日、現在の日本が本当のOn the Sunny Sideにあるかどうは別にして。

あらためて、サッチモ（Lous Armstrong）の名曲の歌詞を眺めてみる。聞いたことはあったけれど、じっくり歌詞を読んだことはなかった。なかなか味わい深い。

If を使ったロックフェラーのくだり、どちらも直接法で書いてある（歌詞を紹介しているページによっては仮定法過去で書いているものもある。間違いだろう。）。歌の歌詞では仮定方過去の表現はよく見かけるけど、ここは直接法。そう、実現するのだろうから！
