Obama's Inauguration: "New Era of Responsibility"

良い意味で期待を裏切られた就任演説だった。"Change has come to America."や"Yes, we can."というフレーズで聴衆を熱狂させてきたこれまでのスピーチと異なって、抑えて、誠実に、謙虚に、現実を踏まえて、それでも、秘めたる情熱を語っていたと思う。読み返すうちに、繰り返す聞くうちに価値が分かってくる、そのような奥深さのあるスピーチだったと思える。やはり、キング牧師のスピーチの影響は随所に見られた。Kennedy,Rooseveltの就任演説の思想も織り込まれている。彼の就任演説は、"Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America."という言葉に象徴されているように、新しいアメリカを、（そして、それは建国の精神に戻ることでもある。"For the Wrold has changed, and we must change with it."とも言っている。）、共につくっていこうという、仲間たちへの呼びかけだったように思う。

"What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility.-a recognition , on the part of every American, that we have duties to ourselves, our nation, and the world, duties that we do not grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge that there is nothing so satisfying to the spirit, so defining of our character, than giving our all to a difficult task. This is the price and the promise of citizenship."
